Images of Gettysburg

Yesterday and Today

During three traumatic days in July of 1863, the town of Gettysburg was turned into hallowed ground by one of the most intense battles to take place on North American soil. Considered one of the key turning points of the war, the battle of Gettysburg resulted in the death or wounding of 50,000 men from both sides of the conflict.

Throughout the almost 140 years since the guns of Gettysburg fell silent, the town has attracted visitors seeking to learn more about the battle and the Civil War, as well as the tactics and heroism carried out in these fields and ridges. This page presents some highlights from several visits to Gettysburg today, a bit of background information, and postcards sent or collected by visitors long ago. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site.
